Partitioning: new solvent extraction processes for minor actinides

Leistungen

In the framework of the development of new Partitioning and Transmutation strategies of the nuclear wastes generated after reprocessing of spent fuels, the objectives of the PARTNEW project are aimed to develop solvent extraction partitioning processes of americium and curium. These elements are present in the high active effluents issuing the reprocessing of the spent fuel at the trivalent state. Consequently, their separation from these acidic effluents from the other elements (fission products), and particularly the trivalent lanthanides Ln(III), is a difficult task. We propose to develop multi-cycle processes able to separate these elements from acidic raffinates or concentrates. The main extractants to be developed are: - Diamides, - Nitrogen polydendate ligands, - Acidic sulphur-bearing ligands. Combinatorial synthesis will be used to prepare selective extractants. Basic research and process developments will be carried out for all the systems studied. Important and positive results have been obtained for the development of the DIAMEX-SANEX processes (basic studies and modelling, processes studies), namely as a function of operating conditions such as the sensitivity of the processes to the concentration of the High Activity Raffinate. The preliminary data led us to expect a success of the first DIAMEX-High Activity Concentrate, which is a major event in the field of partitioning of minor acinides.
