Marine power plant management and monitoring using acoustic emission

Objectif

The main objective of the project is to develop a management and monitoring system(s) using multi sensor based measurement and analysis techniques particular for critical failures in large marine movers such as ship diesel engines and stationary diesel power plants. Particular innovations are claimed in; the development of new quantitative AE monitoring techniques, the reconstitution of spatial time series, the development and application of optimised industrial AE sensors, and the use of novel signal processing and pattern recognition techniques. It is expected that the system will be capable of monitoring the operating parameters and condition of complex machines at higher temperatures, and will have prospects for integration with engine management systems. The methods developed will have wide generic applicability to other reciprocating and rotating machines of all sizes.
