Quality monitoring of superconductors for the production of efficient, compact and reliable energy transmission systems (Q-SECRETS)

Objectif

The main objective is to facilitate the increase of the market for superconductivity in the energy transmission market. For the employment situation in Europe it is crucial that the opportunities present in this growth area are used to increase market volume to 20 B€ in 2020. This new super conducting technology will lead to 6% lower energy consumption in the EU. To achieve this, superconductivity has to be developed to a product that can be marketed in a broad area. A key issue to be resolved by this project is the development of measuring techniques and standards necessary for quality control. New methods will be developed to determine the current capacity and the energy efficiency in the newest generation of transmission cables, transformer coils and the tape conductors inside. An important milestone is the presentation of the pre-normative results to the relevant standard body (CENELEC) and other partners in the EU.
