Remote optical sensing evaluation (ROSE)

Objective

This project will determine QA/QC parameters defining the performance of Remote Optical Measurement Techniques in support of future EC standardization. Calibration tools and testing methodologies will be designed and validated using a variety of commercial remote optical instruments. It is critically important that evaluation is related to the application environment since such effects dominate performance. A core component of the project is therefore a programme of field measurements and numerical/physical modeling to understand productively the circumstances and constraints surrounding measurement. Field measurements and modeling will encompass the diversity of applications including urban air quality, transport, energy, and process emissions. Project activities will include coordinating a user group representing the requirements of industrial users, instrument manufacturers and standards organizations. This will provide a mechanism for Best Practice knowledge to be disseminated.
