Design of a new forged banknote detector using magneto resistant sensor for testing of the new european currency : the euro

Cel

Wherever and whenever there is a currency reform, there is fraud. We have the apprehension that the same calamity could happen with the introduction of the new European currency, the EURO. Criminals will obviously be keen to hit the public in Europe with their forgeries before people have got used to the new currency. Today, a few devices exist but are too slow, not automatic, and not reliable (only 96% of efficiency). It is therefore necessary to design and to develop a range of detector with the following features :. 100% reliable because the device will integrate a magneto resistant sensor which will be able to detect the new securities in the EURO banknotes.. Automatic. Customized (one device for the retailers, one for the supermarket, one for the banking). Cheap With the risk of fraud, the exploitation of the results through the target groups of potential users is huge : from the small retailers to the banking. The ambitious of this project is to solve a European problem which will be present in 11 countries in early 2002.This project will furthermore be an opportunity to work in a European scale thanks to the launching of the EURO and the project perfectly to the against the fraud included in "Competitive and sustainable growth".
