Objective The goal of this CRAFT project is the development of a control apparatus to monitor static and dynamic structures under service conditions, i.e. without stopping plantor machinery activity, at a cost of few hundreds Euro per monitoring point. The objectives are the development of multipurpose devices for wide applications, based on transducers that detect acoustic emissions due to active defects and analyse them in real time. The specific software will evaluate importance of signals source and inform operators on risk level. This implies research on the propagation of signals as a function of structure geometry and materials (metals, non-metals and concrete). The objective will be achieved with advanced microelectronics and specific signal analysis. Expected results will increase safety of plants and of buildings.
