Basic mechanisms of learning and forgetting in natural and artificial systems

Objectif

The key training objective is to promote the development of cognitive science research, especially connectionist approaches to modeling cognition, throughout Europe. Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of intelligent and adaptive behavior in natural and artificial systems. Its inherent interdisciplinary brings together researchers in computer science, experimental psychology, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, mathematics, philosophy, and linguistics. The EU significantly trials the USA in training and research output in this field. The participating teams are all involved in cognitive science research at an international level. Young researchers will be expected to master a wide range of techniques from the major areas of this discipline. They will also be explicitly trained in scientific publication and communication skills to ensure an optimum chance of employment upon completion of their training. Finally, collaborative training exchanges between countries will provide students with the crucial experience of international mobility throughout the whole of Europe.
