Mathematics in everyday life

Objectif

The project is devoted to raising public awareness for mathematics. The means is an exhibition of mathematical experiments showing the impact and importance of mathematics in everyday life. The already existing experience shows that in such a way one can communicate the relevance of mathematics to nearly everybody, in particular youngsters, male and female. Mathematics is not only the oldest science, but also crucial for many modern applications. It serves to maintain and enhance our current lifestyle and economic performance. The project brings together several European initiatives (Giessen, Firenze, Pisa, Modena, Milano, Porto, London) for mathematical science centers in order to reach a critical mass für developing a common exhibition.
The project is subdivided into 6 modules, for which the different teams are responsible:
Numbers (Giessen),
mathematics in every objects (Firenze, Pisa)
perspectivity (Modena),
symmetry (Milano),
strange rooms (Porto),
games (London). The exhibition will be based on common didactical principles and design rules.
