Psychological contracts across employment situations

Objectif

This proposal aims to examine how the changing nature of employment relations in general and different forms of employment contract in particular affect the job security, well being and health of workers in Europe. It is set in the context of continuing change in the experience of employment and evidence of growing problems of job insecurity and work-related health problems in a number of European countries. The analysis will be conducted at the individual, organizational and societal levels and will use the concept of the psychological contract as an integrative framework and also as a mediating variable that helps to determine the impact of forms of employment contract and related policies and practices on employee outcomes. Data will be collected in three sectors in seven countries using questionnaires with workers, interviews with managers and unions and finally analyzed at sector, national and pan-European levels. Results are expected to inform the social partners and policy-makers in preparing regulations to achieve equal treatment of workers and to improve the health and well being of workers in contemporary European organizations.
