Obiettivo
To take advantage of the good land relief and hydrology to develop a mini-hydro plant in a site of high environmental value of a little community in Corse mountains.
Energy savings : 2,240,000 kWh per year.
Cost of production : 0.56 F/kWh
Payback : 12 years.
Due to a good collaboration with administrative offices, after a very large design phase, the Asco plant has been realised minimizing the "environmental cost". The design and realization of the plant (and over all of the dam and fisch ladder) are now recognized as example for that kind of project in high value moutain site.
The first two years of the plant have been perturbated by important hydrologic events (dryness and violent floods). The production estimate of 2,24 GWh/year seems to be corret anyway. For a little community as Asco, this plant represents an important development, that allowed two others realizations.

The impoundment of the river Stranciacone will provide a maximum water flow of 0.45 m3/sec to the new installation. A minimum flow of 0,05 m3/s in the summer and 0.08 m3/sec in winter will be guaranteed by water-economy regulation at the turbine, to maintain water levels for fish life. At the settling tank a scour valve will be provided to clear expected build up of sediment. A 1720 m long penstock will be providedwith an head flot gate.
For minimum environmental impact in this agree of high amenity, the penstock will be laid in a tranch which follows a forest track.
Due to its proximity to a municipal camping site, the power house will be finished in local materials and will be similar in appearance to other chalets in the area. The unit cost is 0.56 F/kWh.
