Obiettivo The recently identified phenomenon of zero-dispersion nonlinear resonance (ZDNR) has thrown up a rich variety of interesting effects that are expected to occur in widely differing areas of physics. The goal of the project is to reach an understanding of ZDNR in all its many manifestations, to seek and analyse new forms of this and related phenomena, and to follow up some potential applications that seem promising. In particular, it is proposed to study:I. Fluctuations in periodically-driven zero-dispersion (ZD) systems, seeking:1) anticipated drastic changes of inter-attractor fluctuational transition rates, as parameters vary;2) unusual features anticipated in the pattern of optimal fluctuational paths;3) the anticipated drastic enhancement of noise-induced transport in periodicZD potentials driven by a periodic force;4) quantitative (both theoretical and analogue) descriptions of the dramatic changes of fluctuation spectra already observed in our preliminary studies;II. Chaos in periodically-driven ZD systems, the main aims being:1) to test the initial inference that an overlap of resonance of different orders can cause the onset of chaos in weakly dissipative systems and to seek the fundamental reasons for this,2) to find the structure of local chaos, and to establish a criterion for the onset of global chaos in non-dissipative systems, given that the well-known Chirikov resonance-overlap criterion fails in ZD systems,3) to test the hypothesis that the onset of global chaos is facilitated by ZDNR if the undriven ZD system possesses two or more separatrices;III. Quantum ZDNR (QZDNR), the main aims being:1) to describe the slow dynamics of a single QZDNR,2) to find characteristic features of quantum chaos associated with QZDNR;IV. ZDNR in various models: SQUIDs (superconducting quantum interference devices), 2D electron gas in a magnetic superlattice, Harper model.
