Obiettivo
We propose to measure the electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleons, with a precision of < 0.3x10^{-4}fm^3 for the proton and 1x10^{-4}fm^3 for the neutron, being several times less than for previous experiments, using a new method to measure the energy dependence of the differential cross-sections of elastic gamma-proton (deuteron) scattering in the photon energy range of 20-120MeV. We suggest that the scattered photons will be detected in coincidence with recoiled proton. This allows rejecting background reactions occurring in the target, and running the experiment on the high-intensity beam of non-tagged bremsstrahlung photons produced by 130MeV electrons. This method provides 100-fold increase of counting rate of useful events compared to experiments with tagged photons, and will yield more precise values of electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleons. The results of the experiment performed in the framework of this collaboration will be freely available to the participants of all four groups for internal use as well as for presentation at conferences and for publication in scientific journals.
