Precision Navigation of Spacecraft with GNSS

Objective

The main objective of the project is to investigate and verify techniques and methods for precise navigation of spacecraft with the help of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
This objective is to be reached by undertaking:
- Analysis of requirements to spacecraft precision navigation with GNSS.
- Investigation of signal processing methods and techniques enabling carrier differential GNSS (CDGNSS) navigation in space;
- Analysis of CDGNSS algorithms for spacecraft positioning and attitude determination;
- Investigation of signals reception and navigation processing architectures for spacecraft GNSS navigation;
- CDGNSS spacecraft relative navigation algorithms validation with simulated and experimental orbital flight data.

The expected results are:
- Determination of the techniques for weak GNSS signals processing applicable at rotating orbital spacecraft;
- Determination of carrier phase differential processing algorithms for spacecraft relative navigation and attitude determination that effectively resolve ambiguity;
- Assessment of equipment and processing architectures (on-board and on-ground) for relative navigation of spacecraft in different missions: from rendezvous in LEO, through MEO, GEO and HEO, to deep space;
- Validation of carrier differential GNSS processing algorithms in simulated environment and with real-world data gathered in orbital experiments.
