Development of thermodynamically defined solid contact for polymer ion selective membranes and application of screen-printing technology for fabrication of miniature all-solid-state potentiometric sensors

Obiettivo

Ion selective electrodes with polymer membranes have found wide areas of application in medicine, environmental studies, and industrial process control. The weak point of commercially produced chemical sensors of this type is that they are rather large and have a liquid inner contact.

The objective of this research is to develop new photocurable polymer matrices for ion sensors, as well as prototypes of miniature planar all-solid-state ion-selective electrodes sensitive to potassium, ammonium and calcium ions in solutions which will be made.

The project will consist of three research parts: the investigation of the properties of electron-, ion-exchanger compositions in contact with polymeric membrane containing ionophore, in order to obtain reversible inner contact to the ion-selective membrane; the preparation and investigation of photocurable polymers as matrices for ion-selective membranes; and the development of all-solid-state planar ion-selective electrode fabrication method utilizing lithography and screen-printing techniques.
