Objectif The use of nanometre radiation as a tool for microscopy and nanometre technology is developing very rapidly. A new type of x-ray optical elements - Bragg-Fresnel optics (BFO) - has been developed at Chernogolovka. A wide field of applications for these optics is provided by the unique properties of Bragg-Fresnel lenses (BFL) and multilayer gratings (MG). Theoretical and experimental investigations of BFL, performed by the joint work of Russian and French laboratories during the past three years, show submicron spatial resolution and absolute efficiency up to 18 %. Recently, a joint investigation of Russian and French crystallography laboratories has led to the development of a new generation of BFO using surface acoustic wave (SAW) modulated gratings. A combination of Bragg-Fresnel device and SAW modulation can be used for precise control of X-ray focused beams in scan and time modulation. This project is devoted to theoretical and experimental investigations on the physics of diffraction on SAW generated superlattices in multilayer X-ray mirrors and to the construction of a high precision scanning and time modulated X-ray optical system. A high-precision scanning and time modulated X-ray optical system will be constructed, impying theoretical and experimental investigations on the physics of diffraction, conception, construction, and optimisation of different optical elements: passive elements designed for deviation or focusing of beams (analogous to optical lenses, mirrors, static beam splitters) and for dispersion in spectral devices; active elements for beam scanning, controlled adaptive optics and also for transforming the information of electric, acoustic, optical signals into X-ray beam modulation. The project will focus and deflect X-ray beam in both directions by using elliptical lenses and ultrasonic scanning. Estimated resolution of such an optical system will be of the order of 0.1 micron, energy resolution up to 10{-4} This type of equipment is totally new and the difficulty will be in the association of different types of elements.
