Geomechanical modelling and anisotropy at the reservoir scale

Exploitable results

The project aimed to improve the understanding and prediction of the geomechanical behaviour of rocks at the reservoir scale. This would be achieved by establishing relationships between rock properties determined at different scales, and combining these in a newly-developed three-dimensional modelling tool. Geomechanical behaviour is a product of the combined effects of perturbations in pore pressure, pore fluid and temperature on the mechanical properties of the rock within the reservoir. It is very difficult to combine these datasets with larger scale information, such as seismic surveys. The project therefore aimed to unite the expertise of its ten project partners and produce a dynamic modelling tool of value to a range of academic and commercial organisations.
