XPS Spectral Intensity Data Bank

Objectif

The objective of the project is to provide XPS spectral data as a basic reference set in an accessible digital form. A minimum of 120 spectra covering elements, oxides and other well characterized compounds, polymers and organic materials will be produced in order to provide the primary data for XPS quantification, not for chemical state analysis. All materials will be prepared to be as homogenous and as clean at the surface as is currently possible using established techniques. The data will be taken using instruments which are calibrated for intensity to a repeatability of better than 1 % and a linearity of better than 2 %, the energy scales being calibrated with traceability to reference standards at frequent intervals. The instrument transmission functions will be calibrated so that true spectra are obtained with widescans of 2 eV resolution at 1 eV intervals and narrow scans around the peaks of high resolution at 0.1 eV intervals.
