INCREASE IN THE AVAILABILITY OF COBALT CO-PRODUCED WITH NICKEL IN INDUSTRIAL PLANT

Objective

THIS RESEARCH PROJECT AIMS TO INCREASE THE COBALT PRODUCED USING VARIOUS SOURCES OF SUPPLY.

1. COMMANDE OF THE ROASTING PROCESS, WITH RECOVERY OF COBALT CONTAINING IN THE RAW MATERIALS :

A. INVENTORY OF AVAILABLE SOURCES OF CO ARSENIDE

B. CHARACTERISATION OF THE ABOVE SOURCES : MINERALOGY, SIZE OF DEPOSITS, GRADES

C. SELECTION OF 3 OR 4 TARGETS WITH A POTENTIAL FOR A YEARLY OUTPUT OF 1000 T. CO, CONSTANT OVER 10 YEARS

D. STUDY OF ROASTING CONDITIONS

E. INDUSTRIAL TEST ON BULK QUANTITIES OF SEVERAL TONNES

2. METALLURGICAL PROCESSING OF THE CALCINE, USING 2 TECHNIQUES :

A. SULFURIC LEACHING, TO CONCENTRATE PRECIOUS METALS IN THE LEACH RESIDUES AND DISSOLVE THE COBALT

B. HYDROCHLORIC LEACHING TO DISSOLVE SIMULTANEOUSLY THE COBALT AND PRECIOUS METALS

RECOVERY OF METALS WILL BE INVESTIGATED FOR BOTH ROUTES.
