Objective In Europe, there is a great variation in cancer care and in survival of cancer patients with similar cases. (Eurocare study, IARC). The type of intervention is the main cause ot these variations There are indications that countries with comprehensive cancer care services and an established co-operation between health care professionals provide better health and survival outcomes. These outcomes in mean survival time can vary from 10 to 20%. This as a major impact on cost for treatment and care. It also induces inequalities in health and social status. A cancer control plan promotes common services, standardised data collection and compilation, exchange of experience between health professional and between structures on the most effective practices as well as experience on quality assurance and quality control. The intention is to initiate cancer control plans throughout Europe and launch the discussing of this concept in a symposium.
