Obiettivo
Single crystals have been produced of all known high temperature superconductors and crystallographic studies have lead to the discovery of some new phases.
Techniques used for the study of these crystals have included neutron diffraction and Roman spectroscopy, and characteristics measured include interatomic distances, foreign phases, impurity atoms, crystal orientation, superconducting gap, dielectric constants, critical fields, critical currents, anisotropy of resistivity, resistivityunder pressure, irreversibility line, Raman scattering, microwave absorption, Hall effect, electron tunnelling, antiferromagnetic ordering of rare earths, ultrasound propagation and attenuation, etc.
The research has permitted an overview of the properties of high temperature superconductors and related compounds.
Techniques have also been developed for the preparation of highly oriented textured samples and textured polycrystalline samples. On the other hand, important theoretical studies have also been carried out.
