Objective This contract was a supplement to contract no 03042-77. Its aim was to focus on applications of multi-articulated columns and technological tests. Some of these studies and tests had not yet ended at the end of this contract and further developments are being conducted : swivel-joint tests and further studies on mooring systems. Although no application of these studies have yet been made, results are encouraging. The use of a multi-articulated column for permanent mooring of a converted tanker has been studied. A computer program has been developed enabling time simulation of the behaviour of the system. It also enabled internal loads in the articulated column to be calculated. A complete series of basin tests was carried out in order to calibrate this computer program. This theoretical approach was completed by technological studies of important pieces of equipment like jumper hoses or swivel joints. Tests were started on typical seals. For swivel joints tests related to other applications (production column) were also performed. They concerned the checking of bending endurance steel risers and their installation. Six 4" riser-tubing with surrounding equipment were submitted to 16 millions cycles which represented a sufficient life - time and gave full confidence in the system.
