FLOATING SELF SET-UP SATELLITE

Objective

Study of a floatting support which would enable functional or complementary units to be connected to a fixed or semi-submersible production platform, either when already in exploitation or during the period of being put in exploration.
For this draft project, the application of the "floating satellite" concept has been limited to rather calm seas (mediterranean sea conditions).
An application in more heavy seas would be technically possible but would lead to a signifiant increase in the dimensions of the structure, such as the weight as well as the strains applied to the platform. The characteristics of the anchor lines should also be increased.
At present, we consider that over 12 m peak to peak, the dimensions of the structure and of the anchoring system would not be in proportion with the envisaged application. For heavy seas, we shall probably have to come back to a more standard anchor system.
Two cylindrical piles, connected to the exploitation platform by a tubular lattice boom, support the functional unit. The piles are anchored by taut cables, with a tensioning system - the tension being limited by hydraulic cylinders. The platform is joined by a simple connection, with a quick disconnection device controlled from the satellite itself.
