OFFSHORE LOADING SYSTEM FOR LNG/LPG AND OTHER REFRIGERATED FLUID

Objective

Aim of the project was to develop an efficient articulated offshore loading system for lng anf lpg which is reliable even under rough sea conditions. This system will permit profitable utilisation of small gas fields and associated gas occurring when oil is extracted.
Extensive studies, computations, computer simulations and tests have shown that the developed system is a feasible and efficient solution. This was also demonstrated by motion simulation tests in 1 to 10 scale. The articulated offshore loading system was precertificated by Det Norske Veritas (Oslo).
Nevertheless, it seems necessary to prove the economy of the system by large scale tests under offshore conditions as a basic requirement of an economic application.
The system developed for transferring liquefied gas even under extreme environmental conditions from a liquefaction platform to an ocean carrier consists of the following main components :
- loading arm (all metal arms composed of rigid pipe and swivel joints).
- ship coupling system.
- supporting structure.
- tensioning system.
- computerised monitoring and control system.
