A 10 KW WIND TURBINE TO CHARGE STORAGE HEATERS IN AN ISOLATED AREA IN SCOTLAND

Objective

To demonstrate the use of a 10 kw WT connected to heat storage through a newly designed control unit.
The wind turbine produces about 12.250 kWh annually, substituting 2.800 liters diesel oil for heating and lightning.
A 10 kW WT, manufactured by LMW, is to be installed on the island of Eigg in Scotland. The WT will be connected to 10 storage heaters, each with capacity of 3.3 kW. The stored heat is to be used for the heating of a school. A newly designed control unit allows the switching on and off the storage heaters according to the WT output. Annual yeld is estimated at 38 MWh. INNOVATION : the storage heater and the controller as well will be redesigned for suitable connection with the WT.
