Storage and distribution of thermal energy in Amsterdam

Obiettivo

Principal aim
Analysis of financial, economical and environmental feasibility aspects of district concepts of combined generation, distribution and storage for heating and cooling.
Derived aim
Definition of boundary conditions for the application of these concepts on the level of technique, economics, urban design and organization. Definition of conditions and demands in the market i.e. the potential clients for heating and cooling services.
Expected results
Optimization model for a heating and cooling supply facility.
Instruments for the assessment of emission effects and economical feasibility of future building projects.
Estimates of potentials for combined heating and cooling facilities in Amsterdam and in environmental effects.
Boundary, conditions for application (technical, economical, organizations)
Boundary conditions and demands from the market.
The 'de Omval' project is taken as a case for study of the feasibility of distinct concepts of energy-infrastructure of this combined working and living district.
A reference situation is defined with conventional gas-fired boilers, energy-power facilities and compression cooling in individual buildings. The engineering activities of the Bureau for New Energy (BNE) will be accompanied by an external bureau in order to compare district concepts and configurations on economical and environmental aspects. In doing so, boundary conditions will be developed from the results and experiences, on a technical, economical, organizational and urban-design level, for environmentally benign concepts.
Market potentials and demands and the role of the energy company are explored by combining results and experience from the 'de Omval' project with information from market and public partners.
Activities
The reference situation will be defined.
Analysis of the existing concept and development of alternative approaches.
Comparison of the different concepts on an economical, technical, organizational, urban, environmental level and on relevant other aspects.
Development of boundary conditions as mentioned above, in order to obtain an assessment model for energy-infrastructures on district level for heating, cooling and electricity.
Active exchange of information and knowledge with market partners and public bodies (municipal urban development services).
