M&T in Industry

Objective

M&T techniques have been successfully applied in manufacturing industry to bring about progressive reduction in specific energy consumption levels.

In spite of the fact that specific consumption in Portugal is generally high, M&T techniques are practically unknown. The project will be conducted to obtain maximum promotion and publicity for M&T.

In view of this, the project aims to organise a series of actions to introduce M&T techniques into the Ceramics industry. These will enable guidelines to be drawn up for a national M&T programme, as well as enable the process of securing voluntary agreements with companies in the sector to start.

The first phase of the project will demonstrate the advantages of applying M&T techniques. These results will be used for promotional and publicity purposes.

The project will begin with a selection of the most suitable companies, in the Ceramics sector, for the introduction of M&T methodology.

Next, an M&T programme will be introduced into the selected companies, and the results subsequently evaluated. The way in which these results are then publicised will be decided on the basis of what would have most impact in the sector in question: brochure, series of seminars, etc. Liaison at this stage with the National and Sectorial Industrial Associations will also be important.

As referred to above, one of the aims of this initial study is to secure, from companies within the sector, voluntary agreements on trying to achieve energy efficiency targets, and to prepare the way for a national M&T programme.
