SOLAR ASSISTED ABSORPTION OR MOTOR DRIVEN COMPRESSOR HEAT PUMPS WITH EARTH SEASONAL STORAGE

Objective



IN THIS PROJECT CARRIED OUT BY THE UNIVERSITY OF PADOVA, ITALY AN ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP (NH3/H2O) OF 25 KW HEAT OUTPUT WAS CONNECTED WITH A SIMPLE 100 M2 ENERGY ROOF AND A VERTICAL HEAT EXCHANGER CONSISTING OF 16 CONCENTRIC TUBES OF 15 M LONG. BOTH THE ENERGY ROOF AND THE HEAT EXCHANGER CAN BE USED AS A HEAT SOURCE FOR THE HEAT PUMP. MOREOVER THE ENERGY ROOF CAN BE USED TO REGENERATE THE HEAT IN THE SOIL BY MEANS OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER. THE INSTALLATION WAS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE HEATING OF A 1 080 M3 TWO STOREY BUILDING.

THE ENERGY CONVERSION EFFICIENCY OF THE ENERGY ROOF WAS 10 - 15 % AND DURING THE SUMMER AROUND 80 KWH WAS DELIVERED PER DAY. TEMPERATURES IN THE SOIL WERE MEASURED NEAR THE TUBES AT DEPTHS OF 1,5, 8 AND 15 M. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE DURING REGENERATION AT 15 M WAS 16 DEGREES C. IN SPITE OF THE REGENERATION DURING THE SUMMER SOME TUBES HAD LOWER TEMPERATURE AFTER ONE YEAR OF OPERATION. THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP WAS LOW; THE PER VALUE WAS 0,8. THIS IS NOT MUCH HIGHER THAN FOR A CONVENTIONAL BOILER. THE PROJECT HAS NOT YET FINISHED AND DATA ON COST AND PAYBACK TIME ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE.
