Objetivo The objectives of the study were to develop a Lagrangian model, which makes use of routinely available wind field data on a European scale, and to use this as a framework for investigating a number of issues concerning the Chernobyl incident and the application of long range models for emergency response purposes. The study also contributes to an appreciation of the uncertainties accompanying the use of Lagrangian trajectory models in an emergency response context and sheds light on the extent to which comparisons of model predictions against Chernobyl radiological data can assist in the evaluation of long range dispersion models.
