TESTING OF PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES

Objetivo

This project, which benefited from the results of earlier work, concerns sea trial of a riser foot manifold and experiments on a 6" pipeline to evaluate the behaviour of links for transferring diphasic fluids (gas and liquid).

Riser foot manifold
-------------------
The riser foot manifold is subsea set of valves distributing both the production of hydrocarbons and of fluids required for production (injection gas or water, recirculation or safety fluids). This equipment consists of modular elements that are reraised to the surface for maintenance. A test at sea in shallow depth was prepared to test the automatic positioning and correct connection of a manifold module on a structure simulating the base of a riser foot manifold. The test took place in october 1980 in pertuis d'antioche. It was interrupted following breakage of the drilling string used to position the equipment. Since this incident called neither the technique nor the method into question, the test was abandoned at this point so as to have equipment available for the deep water tests. This deep water test was carried out in conjunction with the flowline laying and connecting test in may 1981 in the mediterranean, in 256 metres of water, with automatic installation of the elements of the manifold and operating tests at pressure of 350 bars (see also project no th-03035-77-fr).
Two-phase flow
--------------
The interest of this work resides in particular in the possibility of considering long distance conveyance through a single pipeline of the oil and the associated gas produced by marginal deposits.
Experiments using a 6" diameter pipeline on two-phase flow covered the influence of the gradient ( - 5 to + 7 deg. C.), pressure (15 to 40 bars), temperature and viscosity. Several mathematical models were established to predict the pressure losses encountered when conveying fluids under diphasic conditions.
A computer program named "pepite transport" was written and de-bugged on the basis of data collected on oil field. This program is operational and is presently used for dimensioning gas and oil pipelines.
