ILLUMINATION BY LOW ENERGY SYSTEMS

Objetivo

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate the electrical savings and the achievement of better sight and security conditions in lighting tunnels, car parks, underground. . . through the use of low consumption systems combining fluorescent lights and delineation panels.
It is also intended to obtain photo luminescent effects for 1 hour with anti black-out effect.
The system will be experimented in large covered areas (car parks) in Milan. At project level, it is expected to achieve a 70000 kWh /year energy saving.

The system combines two basic elements:
- fluorescent lamps on the roof or on the columns of the park. These low power lights are installed above car height and are oriented to light the panels.
- delineation panels regularly located on the side of park ways and approximately perpendicular to the driving direction.
The surfaces are treated with refractive or photoluminescent films; they spread the light coming from the lamps and from the cars in transit.
In a black-out, the emergency electric batteries will work.
After battery discharging, the panels will retain a good light for about one hour.
The panels will supply a good view of the area, obstacles and parking places, and the system will allow a very low energy consumption. In comparison to the current lighting consuming 11 kW for the 3 floors, the new lighting plant will only use 3 kW.
Tests of energy use and visibility will be made in various conditions on the new plant to determine the system efficiency.
The investment is estimated at 156 Mio Lit, and operation cost benefits at 2 Mio Lit, leading to a 12. 4 years payback time.
