Discrete optimisation and applications

Objetivo

The Discrete Optimization Network (DONET) links together eight leading laboratories and research institutes from both Western and Eastern Europe with the following long-term objectives:
- further development of theory and methods of discrete optimization; - provide a European "center of excellenc"' to act as training ground destination for young post doctoral researchers in discrete optimization; - development of algorithms as well as software for discrete optimization.'
The two laboratories from non-EEC-countries have applied within the Human Capital and Mobility program without funding. The goal of the persent proposal is to enable them to be full partners also from the funding point of view.

The groups from Budapest and Prague are among the very leading groups in Eastern European Countries, if not among the very best in an international scale. Comparing the detailed description of the objectives of the Budapest and Prague group with the objectives of the Western European partners, it can be seen that the research interests of the partners complement one another in an optimal way.
It is guaranteed that the research interests of the two Eastern European partners fit optimally into the scientific aims of the common project and that the added value for the objects of DONET will be very high.
In the last 15 years the members of the Budapest group as well as the members of Prague group have already established mutually fruitful scientific relationship with many of the institutes of the "Western part" of Discrete Optimisation Networks. DONET can be considered as a continuation of these already existing scientific contacts. It is therefore very natural that the Budapest and Prague groups are fully involved in DONET.
