Noise from gas transport circuits in the steel industry

Objetivo

The purpose of the proposed study is to identify the significant noise factors among the various gas circulation circuits in the steel industry and to establish how these can be incorporated into the calculation model.

Large quantities of gases have to be handled in the steel industry, particularly in coking plants (hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide), blast furnaces (blast furnace gas, hot and cold blasts) and melting shops (oxygen, mixing gases, fumes). The circuits used for transporting these gases are sources of noise, the level of which varies considerably.

In the context of research on the reduction of noise in the steel industry (hearing protection, working conditions, communications, reduction of nuisance to the external environment), we are proposing to establish a general method of calculating noise from gas transport systems.

Such a project will be based on:

- existing selective studies
- our own calculation program for ventilation ducts, which is already operational and will be extended to cover steel industry installations, eg blowers, purifiers, heat-insulated ducts, cowpers, etc.

First of all it is important to identify on location the specific factors to be taken into account, ie those which contribute significantly to the noise level.
