Decision Support System for Statistical Quality Control of Production Processes

Objetivo

The purpose of the project is to provide improved decision support systems in the field of industrial quality control.

This will be achieved by incorporating recent research results in the area of statistical quality control, which focus on ensuring a high quality level of production; and by designing the system to take account of the knowledge and practice of industrial users.

Three subsystems will be developed:

the first will enable the user to create an efficient quality control system particularly in the case of complex, multi-stage production processes. This system will include newly developed optimisation algorithms
the second subsystem will consist of two parts devoted to statistical and economic design of control procedures. New methods optimised with respect to statistical as well as economic criteria will be offered. The work with the expert system will be facilitated by a specially designed user interface
the third subsystem will operate as an interface between quality control and technological control of the production process. The results obtained by the quality control units, together with the expert knowledge about the behaviour of the process, will be utilised to suggest process improvements. To this end knowledge representation schemes will be developed which can be used for connecting statistical data and technological knowledge.
