Objetivo The aim of VASCO is to validate the suitability of a specific technology for the support of road transport and traffic telematics applications such as electronic fee collection, access control or traffic and travel information. Municipal and transport authorities, vehicle fleet owners and car drivers are among the users of the technology which is proposed for European standardization and known as dedicated short-range communication (DSRC). The project will result in the validation of the DSRC equipment of all main European manufacturers. The common standard will enable the applications to be used anywhere in Europe.The main objective of the project is the validation of Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) proposed for standardization in Europe (CEN TC 278) as suitable technology to support road transport and traffic telematics (RTTT) applications (such as Automatic/Electronic Fee Collection, Access Control, Traffic & Travel Information, Dynamic Route Guidance etc.).Users of DSRC and RTTT applications are organisations such as cities / road authorities, motorway operators, fleet owners as well as car drivers. The needs and requirements of these users will be taken into account by close co-operation with other projects proposed for the 4th framework (e.g. MOVE-IT: Motorway Operators Validate EFC for Interoperable Transport) and analysis of DRIVE II project outcomes and project team results contributing to standardization of RTTT.The project will be based on the emerging standards on the user requirements produced by the applicative working groups and on prENV standards already specified by sub-groups of the DSRC working group 9 of CEN TC 278. The prENV standards will be validated with respect to their correctness, consistency and completeness, and their implementability.The final result of the VASCO project will be the validation of the DSRC equipment of all main European manufacturers based on two different media (5.8 GHz and Infra-red) in various even worst-case environments (multi-lane, multi-application, windscreen attenuation, extreme weather conditions, etc.), validating also the compatibility/interoperability of DSRC on-board equipment and ground equipment of different manufacturers.
