New approaches to curriculum design and development for agricultural teacher education in Russia

Ziel

New approaches to society, economic relations and environment in Russia have resulted in agrarian reforms and great changes in the nature of farming.

This joint research project will investigate new approaches to curriculum design and development for agricultural teacher education in Russia which will lead to improvements in the training of teachers who work in agricultural schools and colleges where future farmers and agriculturists are trained. In the first instance, the research will focus on modular approaches to curriculum design for retraining existing teachers and later on for training new teachers. It will require the development of teacher profiles which take account of the professional, technical and environmental training of agricultural workers.

Initially, the research will involve the exchange of literature, information, experiences and ideas which will lead to a greater understanding of the different systems for agricultural teacher education found in the three participating countries and the principles of didactics underlying these systems. In addition, recent developments and research in curriculum innovation for teacher education, especially modularisation of the curriculum for in -service teacher training, the activisation of the learning process, and the development of student responsibility towards work and the environment, will be studied. This will draw upon theoretical principles of didactics, didactical cybernetics and a combination of knowledge which underlies the development of agro-pedagogical processes.
