Reduction of fouling and pressure losses through gas reheaters using optimised enamelled and mesh plastic composite heat

Objetivo

It is proposed to determinate the benefits arising from the replacement of the cold-end layers in a pair of rotary regenerative gas re-heaters in a UK Power Station with optimised profiles of both glass enamelled and mesh plastic composite (MPC) elements. The pressure drop and fan power savings made by these new elements will be compared to that the present elements over 1 year of operation using the station TMs Operating Information System to gather the operating data. The pressure drop drift will be studied on each heater to determine the influence of specific operating conditions and alternative cleaning measures. Associated specific investigative work may also be required. The innovative nature of the work is particularly associated with MPC elements. However, the redesign and replacement of the element profile to optimise performance for both sets of elements should result in an additional, significant power saving. Therefore, this is also an important feature of the project.
