Event date:
 2013-05-19 The Third International Conference on Environment and Industrial Innovation (ICEII 2013) will be held from 19 to 20 May 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The environmental problems currently facing advanced industrial countries are not new, and will continue to grow if nothing is done. Some people believe that regulation can help to address these problems, while at the same time make industry more competitive. Others however believe that innovation, which is central to industrial development, should not be hampered, and that solutions to environmental issues can be best answered by industry. What is not in doubt is that the scale of development seen in the last few decades cannot continue at its current pace without adapting, due to diminishing natural resources and the impact on the environment.

This event will bring together researchers, academics and industrial experts in order to exchange and promote research and developmental activities.

 2013-05-19 The Fourth International Conference on Food Engineering and Biotechnology (ICFEB 2013) will be held from 19 to 20 May 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Food engineering refers to the engineering aspects of food production and processing. It combines physical science, microbiology, and engineering education at the service of food and related industries. One of the many challenges in this domain is to employ modern tools and knowledge in order to develop new products and processes while simultaneously improving quality, safety, and security. These indeed remain critical issues in food engineering and for consumers.

The conference will bring together leading engineers and scientists to discuss the latest trends and development and promote scientific information interchange between researchers and practitioners.

 2013-05-21 The Seventh International Conference on Sustainable Water Resources Management will take place from 21 to 23 May 2013 in New Forest, UK.

Water is essential for sustaining life on our planet and its uneven distribution is a source of permanent conflict. The growth of human population combined with irregularity in precipitation and water availability may restrict even further the access to water in certain regions of the world. This problem is made more severe by anthropogenic activities that affect its quality.

The conference will bring together different stakeholders to discuss the most recent technological and scientific developments associated with the management of surface and sub-surface water resources.

 Event date:
 2013-05-21 An event entitled 'Magnesium Workshop Madrid 2013'Agriculture' will be held from 21 to 24 May 2013 in Madrid, Spain.

In order to significantly reduce the environmental burdens in modern society, lightweight metals and alloys play an increasingly important role because of their high strength and stiffness, corrosion resistance, and recyclability. Among them, magnesium (Mg), aluminum (Al), and titanium (Ti) alloys are widely utilized to manufacture structural components in aircraft, automotive, marine, electronics, and construction industries.

To meet the need for a reduction of energy consumption, the industry has pushed light-weighting technologies and research efforts related to improving Mg - the lightest of all structural metals - to the forefront. Although a great deal of progress has been made in our understanding of the deformation behavior of Mg alloys, a rigorous knowledge of the transitions leading to changes in the dominant deformation mode is still lacking along with how to control the microstructure in order to optimize the mechanical behavior.

The workshop will provide a forum for researchers, industry and markets to exchange information on the present state of things and future opportunities.

 2013-05-23 An event entitled 'Allergy and Asthma 2013'will be held from 23 to 24 May 2013 in Bruges, Belgium.

Allergies are the most prevalent chronic diseases in Europe. Allergies to airborne substances have been growing steadily over the past few decades and this trend is far from ending. This is especially true for children, who show a higher incidence of allergic diseases. If this continues, 40% of the European population will present an allergic predisposition by the year 2040. The reasons for this steady increase, however, remain unclear.

The event will be an opportunity for researchers to exchange and discuss news and developments from within this fast developing field as well as for networking.

 Event date:
 2013-05-23 An event entitled 'Transdisciplinary Research on Sustainability in Europe: Generic Issues' will be held from 23 to 24 May 2013 in Prague, Czech.

Major EU research programmes are calling for transdisciplinary research to address joined up and complex problems - particularly in the area of sustainability. Whilst there is an emphasis on the dissemination of substantive results from funded projects, there is less attention to the sharing of the experiences and lessons learnt from project processes, problems, issues and strategies developed for dealing with these. Gathering such information would not only help share and reflect on issues of Transdisciplinary Research for Sustainability (TDRS) including methodology and management, but it would also be an opportunity to contribute to recommendations to the European Research Area (ERA) for the further development of research capacity on TDRS.

This event will be hosted by the CONVERGE EU FP7 research project and Charles University Environment Center together with the COPERNICUS Alliance. It will allow for an international exchange of knowledge and will investigate how the Convergence and MOSUR approaches, tools and concepts might inform and link with agendas in TDRS. Discussion will be focused on developing recommendations for the ERA and provide more productive TDRS.

 Event date:
 2013-05-27 A conference entitled 'Healthy brain: healthy Europe - A new horizon for brain research and healthcare' will be held from 27 to 28 may 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.

According to recent estimates, approximately one-third of European citizens are affected by at least one brain disorder. In 2010, the estimated combined cost to EU member states and associated countries was €798 billion, which is comparable to the cost of cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes combined.

Effective management of health, social, educational, employment and productivity costs will not be achieved by improvements in healthcare delivery alone. Rather, the solution lies in new, integrated and innovative national efforts that capitalise on our research strengths and deliver real health benefits.

The aims of this conference organised by the European Commission are to:

* Encourage public authorities to promote coordination;
* Help lift taboos associated with brain health issues;
* raise awareness of the importance of screening and early diagnosis;
* Highlight the need for the right infrastructures, policies and regulatory environment;
* Facilitate the absorption and integration of research results into policy and good practice;
* Advance the practical application of the new paradigm of brain research and healthcare taking into account patient needs.
Renowned experts from across Europe are expected to highlight why policy-makers should devise, or refine, national strategies on brain research and healthcare. Policymakers, representatives from ministries, funding agencies, industry, patient organisations, researchers and health professionals will be among the invited participants.

 2013-05-29 The 19th International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment will take place from 29 to 31 May 2013 in Kos, Greece.

Like many economic activities that are infrastructure-intensive, the transport sector has a significant impact on development and welfare. However, the issues of transportation and protection of the environment can sometimes be difficult to reconcile. On one side, transportation supports the increasing mobility demands from passengers and freight, ranging from urban areas to international trade. On the other side, developing transport infrastructure can encourage greater car use, leading to congestion. As a result, the transportation sector is becoming increasingly linked to environmental problems.

Innovative systems, new approaches and original ideas can make a difference, but need to be thoroughly tested and critically evaluated before they can be implemented in practice. Moreover, there is a growing need for integration with telecommunications systems and IT applications in order to improve safety, security and efficiency.

This conference will be a forum for attendees from various interdisciplinary group to discuss the latest trends and issues in the field.

 Event date:
 2013-05-30 The Ninth International Workshop on HIV and Hepatitis Co-infection will be held from 30 to 31 May 2013 in Rome, Italy.

With the success of antiretroviral therapy, HIV-infected patients are seeing improvement in longevity, only to be challenged with the dangers and complications of additional viral infections. One can get some forms of viral hepatitis the same way he gets HIV. Persons with HIV infection are disproportionately affected by viral hepatitis; about one-third of them being co-infected with hepatitis B or hepatitis C, which can cause long-term (chronic) illness, death and complicate the management of HIV infection. As a result, all persons living with HIV should be tested for hepatitis B and hepatitis C by their doctors.

Depending on the country, these patients can represent a majority or a significant minority of the HIV patients under care. Although HIV/Hepatitis co-infection was a small part of some major HIV conferences, there is a growing need among clinicians and researchers to focus on this challenge.

The workshop will focus on developments in basic science, emerging therapies and clinical management. It will emphasize translational research and best practices in the clinical management of Hepatitis and HIV co-infection.
