Honorary professorship for Dr. Ulrich Buller

Dr. Ulrich Buller, a member of the executive board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, has been awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the University of Potsdam.

Doctor of chemistry Ulrich Buller, 60, has been given the title in recognition of “his scientific and political merits in helping to establish the Science Center in Golm”. The dean of the faculty of Mathematics and Science at the University of Potsdam, Professor Ralph Tiedemann, officially presented Buller with his certificate on January 25. Ulrich Buller will hold his honorary professorship in the Institute of Technical Chemistry. His lectures on the topic of “From basic research to market readiness” were an enrichment to the university’s range of courses and very popular with the students, said Tiedemann in his ceremonial speech. The faculty greatly appreciated the fact that the Fraunhofer director had retained his sense of personal commitment to Potsdam-Golm despite his numerous other obligations. Ulrich Buller earned his doctorate at RWTH Aachen in 1980. He has been with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft for 23 years – first of all at headquarters in Munich, where he became head of the corporate planning department in 1989 and head of the research planning department in 1994. In 1997 he moved to the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam-Golm. After two years as its acting director, he was officially appointed Institute director in 1999. Buller has held the position of Senior Vice President Research Planning at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft since June 2006.
