To submit or to get more information, go to the Conference website at www.eval.org/eval2008/default.htm. Select the R, T&D TIG for review of your proposal as part of the submission process. To view presentations from the R, T&D TIG for 2006 and earlier, go to the WREN Website http://www.wren-network.net under “EVENTS”. 2007 presentations will be posted soon. This year the American Evaluation Association Conference will be held in Denver, Colorado. The Conference will be held from Wednesday, November 5th to Saturday, November 8th, 2008. Half-, one-, and two-day professional development workshops will precede and follow. The R, T& D TIG has always had good international representation. The R, T&D TIG at the AEA is one of two annual events of the Washington (and World) Research Evaluation Network (WREN). We expect that Denver will attract a wide range of participants and that we can all share experiences and learn from one another. Last year there were almost 20 sessions sponsored by the TIG, and this year we are encouraging sessions that are co-sponsored with other AEA TIGs, or that bring in experts to debate and critique methods and strategies. We intend to provide opportunities for exchange throughout the conference and afterward. So mark the dates on your calendar. If you do not wish to submit a proposal, please plan to attend! Presentations on all topics will be welcome, but in keeping with the theme of the conference, the R, T&D TIG is particularly asking for presentations within two general themes. These are: Tools for Evaluating Vital Aspects of R, T&D – identification of best practices and new advances in tools relevant for assessing key aspects of R, T&D’s place in the innovation system, especially to assess: The short, mid term and far stream impact of R&D? Managing and measuring high risk, disruptive, innovative R&D? Bridging gaps between basic and applied R&D and the “valley of death” Portfolios of research along a life cycle: selection, management, and retrospectively Utilizing Evaluation in Strategic Management – identification of best practices and lessons learned in using evaluation as part of R&D organizations’ strategic management and operations, either at an agency or at a national government/international organization level. Proposals are accepted for a variety of formats: Debates, Demonstrations, Panels, Papers, Posters, Roundtables, Think Tanks, and Skill-building Workshops.
