BRICKER off to Sustainable Places 2015

The third edition of Sustainable Places will take place in Savona, Italy on 16-18 September. During the second day, BRICKER will be co-hosting a workshop entitled Innovative retrofitting activities alongside fellow projects A2PBEER and RESSEEPE.

The workshop, which will herald the first joint action between the three projects, is scheduled to take place from 9am to 10.30am on 17th September. The project trio will deliver insights on energy reduction, retrofitting solutions, and affordability in public buildings since they are all from the same project call ‘integration of technologies for energy-efficient solutions in the renovation of public buildings’. Fabrizio Alberti from BRICKER partner Fondazione Bruno Kessler will kick off the presentations by setting out some of the project’s integration and operation strategies known as the BRICKER concept. This will include envelope retrofitting solutions for demand reduction through made-to-measure façades, innovative insulation materials and high performance windows, as well as zero emissions energy production technologies based on an ORC-based cogeneration system fed with locally available and clean renewable sources: solar and/or biomass. Following this first presentation, Pierre Redondo from Polylogis will take a look at ventilated façades, aerogel-based super-insulating mortar and different energy storage systems, to be implemented in the RESSEEPE project. And before the workshop’s open discussion sequence, A2PBEER’s Ciaran Lynch from Limerick Institute of Technology will show a video about the project and will tackle issues relating to affordability and training in delivering retrofitting solutions today. The workshop is the forth in the conference agenda and will be held in room no.4 between 9am and 10.30am on Thursday 17th September. Chairing it will be Giulia Barbano from RESSEEPE leader IES. All three projects plan further clustering initiatives at more events like SP2015 with at least one joint action every year, with the aim of maximising best practice and replicability in the EeB domain. The 2015 edition of Sustainable Places will include keynote speakers Rajvant Nijjhar from M&V specialists iVEES, Thomas Messervev from R2M Solutions, and Germain Adell, head of EU funded R&D programmes and innovation at NOBATEK. On the 18 September, the event will conclude with a visit of Savona Campus Energy Simulation Facilities to allow delegates to see the Smart Polygeneration Microgrid (SPM) controller and generator, and the “Energy Hub”.
