Germany leads in high-tech employment
With some 16 million people in the European Union (EU) working in the high-technology sector, the main employer is Germany (with 27.5%), followed by the United Kingdom (19.9%), France (15.1%) and Italy (11.7%), according to a EUROSTAT report. The clear lead enjoyed by Germany is highlighted in the statistics, which show that, 10 of the top 15 regions in the EU in terms of share of employment in the high-tech sector are in Germany, two are in France, and the others in Italy, Sweden and the UK. Stuttgart, Germany, comes first with 23.3% of its employment recorded in high-tech manufacturing and services.
