The European Commission's Directorate-General for Enterprise Policy, Distributive Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives (DG XXIII) has issued 8 invitations to tender and 2 calls for proposals for different aspects of the promotion of Europe as a tourist destination. The calls for proposals cover, amongst others, transnational projects contributing to improving information for tourists, particularly through the use of new technologies. Tourist information systems are undergoing major developments through rapid development of services providing direct information for tourists via new technologies. Projects and initiatives financed by the Commission must therefore contribute to improving the quality and reliability of tourist information at the technical design stage as well as to the development of reciprocal exchange systems for tourist information and highly accessible transnational networks for the dissemination of such information. Tenders must be addressed to: Commission of the European Communities DG XXIII, Enterprise Policy, Distributive Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives Attn. Ms. Y.
