The Commission of the European Communities calls for proposals concerning the implementation of the MED-CAMPUS programme, aimed at boosting ties between institutions of higher education in the Community and their counterparts in Mediterranean non-member countries (MNC). This programme of university cooperation has been developed as part of the Commission's New Mediterranean policy. It is designed to encourage universities to pool experience so as to improve practices which most directly affect the economic and social development of the MNCs, especially in relation to human resources. It's aims are to: - Establish trans-Mediterranean networks; - Improve higher education structures by disseminating European experience in the MNC; - Boost links between universities and the main local agents of social and economic change; - Improve the training of staff involved in running local administrations and businesses. Priority areas for action, selected to support the transfer of know-how to the MNC are: - Regional economic and social developments; - Public and private enterprise management; - Management of the environment; - Multicultural development. Proposals, which must include specific objectives and a detailed work programme, may involve applied research, the supply of minor equipment and access to Community databases. They must also involve at least one MNC partner and at least two other partners from two Community Member States. Universities, higher education institutions and public training bodies may participate in the MED-CAMPUS programme. The level of Community financing may vary depending on the project, but may not exceed 80% of the total budget. All candidates will be informed of the result of their application within 1 month of the Commission's Decision on financing the programme. Proposals must be submitted to: Commission of the European Communities Directorate-General for External Relations, Unit H/2 (Science 14 - Office 8/39) 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-22990203
