Telecommunications Council opens the way to telecom growth
At a meeting of the Transport and Telecommunications Council in Luxembourg on 27 June, Ministers agreed to a revised regulatory framework for electronic communication networks and services. The directive seeks to modernise existing measures, define the rights of users and consumers, allow national regulatory authorities to take measures on behalf of users and consumers, and underpin industry's efforts to ensure the interoperability of consumer digital television equipment. The meeting also considered the protection of privacy in the electronics communication sector, radio spectrum policy and third generation mobile phones. Taken together, these measures should contribute towards the continued growth of the telecom sector.
