The results of a study on "Communication of Health Care Resource Management Data in Europe" has been published by the EC's programme of Advanced Informatics in Medicine (AIM). The publication sets out the results of a survey on data communication made by the Belgian Ministry of Public Health, supported by AIM, on case-based health care resource management information exchange amongst the EU's Member States. It also includes contributions made to the Limelette Conference (Belgium, December 1992), which resulted in the signing of a Declaration of Intent by all the Member States on the adoption of a common specification for data sets and the development of mechanisms for cross-national utilization of data. The consequences of the Declaration are described, as well as future prospects leading to further action in the exchange of case-based information for better health care resource management.
