Within the framwork of the ARION programme, 950 education specialists will visit, during the 1994-1995 academic year, another Member State in order to study a system of education different from their own. For the first time, the EFTA countries will take part in this initiative. The aim of the study visits is to examine the general structure of education systems and specific educational themes. These include the following: - An evaluation of education systems; - An assessment of those involved in education: pupils, teachers and parents; - The teaching curriculum and teaching apparatus; - Schools and their environment; - Other measures (e.g. language teaching). The study visits will result in a number of multilateral exchanges concerning new educational approaches and methods. Measures observed during the visits may be given practical application in the participants' countries of origin. It is hoped that the visits will contribute to the development of education in the Community, in terms of quality, diversity and integration, and encourage Community-wide awareness of the different education systems in Member States. As from 1995, the ARION study visits will become part of the SOCRATES programme.
