The European Environment Agency is responsible for providing the European Union and the Member States with objective, reliable and comparable information enabling them to take the requisite measures to protect the environment, to assess the results of such measures and to ensure that the public is properly informed about the state of the environment. The Agency now wishes to: - Create a reserve list of consultants and consultancies with skills and expertise relevant to the work programme of the Agency; - Place the first of a number of short-term contracts for consultants to work in the Agency located in Copenhagen to help develop its work programme. Consultants are required immediately and the contracts will be at the normal rates for EU institutions for an initial period of six to 12 months with the possibility of further extension. The selection of consultants for immediate recruitment and for the reserve list will be made from the following areas of expertise: - Environmental monitoring, network design, data handling, analysis and reporting; - Forest condition and/or other land use/cover data collection (including remote sensing), management, analysis and presentation; - Integrated assessment and reporting on the environment (its state, trends and pressures); - Environment meta-data, catalogues of data sources and thesauri; - Environmental report publishing; - Library/information science in an environmental context; - Oracle database management; - ARC-INFO GIS for storing, analysing and presenting environmental information; - LAN/WAN design, implementation and management; - Unix and/or Windows-based systems support. Candidates must be nationals of a member State of the Agency (EU Member States, Austria, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).
