The European Community and space
The European Commission, DG XII, has published a communication entitled "The European Community and space - Challenges, opportunities and new actions". The communication represents the Commission's approach to supporting the successful further development of the European space effort. It is both an update and an extension of the previous communication on space in 1988 and takes account of issues and new opportunities which have arisen. The publication reviews the different space sectors of interest to the EU as well as the impact of the changes which have taken place. It also establishes guidelines for the Community's role and proposes lines of action to support and complement the activities of the European Space Agency, of the Member States and of other organizations involved in space.
