In the framework of the specific programme for cooperation with third countries and international organizations, under the Fourth Framework Programme, a call for proposals is launched in the following area (area B): - Fellowships and grants for stays in Japan in scientific fields or in the area of manufacturing technologies and scientific fellowships in Korea. The call for proposals concerning area C (scientific and technological cooperation with developing countries) is being finalized. Its publication, initially planned for 15 February 1995, is now expected for 15 March 1995. The fields covered by the present call for proposals are the natural sciences and engineering, and economics and management (in particular the management of innovation). The programme's provisions in this domain may be summarized as follows: - Fellowships for young European researchers and engineers wishing to undertake a placement in a Japanese laboratory belonging to a university, public research centre or company. The placements, which are preceded by intensive training in Japanese, are of a maximum duration of 18 months; - Pilot measures for "European Chairs" in Japan, enabling experienced teachers and researchers to undertake placements of between 3 and 6 months for the purposes of teaching and/or research; - Fellowships in the field of production technologies for European engineers wishing to work in Japanese companies for a duration of 6 to 11 months, following an intensive course in Japanese; - Pilot measures for research fellowships in Korea similar to the fellowships described for Japan in the first subparagraph above. This open call for proposals concerns all the fellowships and grants for the duration of the programme. For fellowships in Japan, the stay begins with language training, which normally lasts for three months, but can be extended to six if necessary. The market survey to select one language school or more for the duration of the programme will be carried out according to the procedures in force. All requests for information or correspondence concerning this call for proposals should be sent to: European Commission Cooperation with non-European industrialized third countries Directorate-General XII Unit XII/B-3 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels Tel. +32-2-2953990; Fax +32-2-2969824 Applications may be sent to the same address.
