Specific RTD programme in the field of marine science and technology
Council Decision 91/351/EEC of 7 June 1991, adopting a specific research and technological development programme in the field of marine science and technology (MAST II, 1990 to 1994), has now been published in the Official Journal. Encouraging basic Community research, training researchers in the context of the programme, aiming to strengthen the scientific and technological basis of European industry and furthering social cohesion while involving SMEs to the maximum extent possible, the programme seeks to acquire a sound basis of knowledge and of reliable forecasting techniques in order to develop long term strategies for protecting and managing the marine environment, directing research towards the understanding of the fundamental processes which govern both oceans and coastal waters. Presented as a direct development of the 1989-1992 MAST programme, it is adopted for a period beginning 7 June 1991 and ending 31 December 1994, with an estimated necessary appropriation amounting to ECU 102.96 million.
